Journal Round The World Challenge

Starting in January 2023 we have been engaged in a Journal Round the World challenge, whereby groups of our members start a junk journal with three/four signatures and then pass the journal to another member of the group to decorate the first signature. When that is completed, the journal is sent to the next member of the group, who completes the second signature etc. until, when there is only one signature left, the journal is returned to the originator, who completes and keeps it.

Originally, I thought this project would be completed in three months and the aim was to finish all the journals by the end of March 2023, but life gets in the way of good intentions and, as I write, we are nearly into October and some of the journals are still not finished.

However, yesterday I received the first set of photos from Victoria PL and I am very pleased to post them here for you all to see:-

I think they are very good and I can't wait to see the others. I'm sure there will be lots of different styles to come :)

I have not posted much here for a couple of years owing to the lack of interest in the Blog, but live in hope  that this will change.

Our current challenge is to make a recipe journal :)

Treasure Island Junk Journal Challenge

Treasure Island Challenge

April/May 2019

Treasure Island Challenge (revised 3rd May 2019)

April into May 2019

Our current craft challenge is to make a junk journal with the theme of a Treasure Island. Nobody has to take part in this challenge. It is supposed to be fun and a chance to forget your problems for a short while each day, turning your thoughts to something therapeutic. We all know the benefits that crafting has on our psyche. However, if you want to join in and I hope you do, it’s not too late to catch up. Those who join in will be on the boat when we set sail. Those who desist will be left at home and will have to watch our progress on the television! So, welcome aboard our jolly ship. I hope you enjoy the journey with the hope of treasure to find…
For those of you who have not made a junk journal before, this is an opportunity to start from scratch and be guided along stage by stage and by doing it all together those of us who know how to do it and are improvers do not have to go through the same processes over and over again. Questions will arise as we go along and answers can be given by those who are more experienced.
I have chosen the theme of a Treasure Island because I thought it would appeal to everyone. Each of us has our own style and will be encouraged to use it to best advantage.
Week One – Design a Treasure Map. Examples can be found in Files if you feel you are not up to making your own.
Week Two –Make 12 tea-dyed pages and collect some other ‘island’ related pages.
Week Three – Add pictures to the tea-dyed pages at top corners using page in landscape mode. Examples and pictures are available to you in Files.
Week Four – Make two or three pages of flash cards and cut or tear them out. Then, distress the edges with Tim Holtz distress ink and set aside for later. See Files for examples.
Week Five – Make another 12 pages in blue using fabric dye or Koolaid.

I do hope you will join in with this challenge. I think it will be a lot of fun and a rewarding experience craft wise.

Our Ivy Pocket Junk Journal Page Challenge - 14th October 2018

This was our challenge:
Yesterday, 30th September, was the start of the Celtic tree month of Ivy. Ivy is a climber and relies for its existence on clinging to a wall or a tree. With tiny tendrils of roots, it makes its way slowly upwards and around until it has a firm hold of its host. Likewise we, as people, depend on each other for our existence. No matter how much we want to do it alone, there will come a time when we need others. The challenge is to design a junk journal page, complete with a pocket, using the theme of ivy. Your design should describe our need for others and the satisfaction brought to each of us through our dependence on other people.

Liz's Ivy Pocket Page

The silk flower represents my family circle,
The ivy represents growth and lives entwined,
The tag in the pocket has an image of soldiers marching which represent the struggles and battles we endure on life's path and
The butterflies represent freedom from fears and beautiful things that occur even in our troubled times.

The vines are the many friendships that grow and the leaves are the friends i know very well. It's great to have friends that care and people helping one another
