Lino Cutting Honesty Seed Head

This week I've been doing some lino cutting. I made one using a twig of Honesty as my example. I drew the picture onto the lino, cut out all around it and then used it as a stamp. I bought two types of acrylic paint and stamped one over the other to show shadowing. The acrylics I used were a dark mauve and a beige. Now I can use the stamp for my next junk journal. Also if I mix a little of fabric prep. with the paint (1/3 fabric prep. to 2/3 paint), I will be able to stamp onto fabric and it will be colourfast on cloth. I will be able to put the cloth in the washing machine to clean it. I'm going to use it to print onto a tablecloth, but I have to make the tablecloth first. I'll show you how it turns out.
If I had wanted the image to be less sketchy, I would use a roller to apply the paint.

Tea dyeing envelops and index cards

Yesterday I tea dyed some envelopes and index cards. I happened upon this interesting technique quite by chance the other day when I was clearing up after Sunday lunch.  I was washing up the meat try, which is metal. Washed it, dried it, then put a mixture of cold tea and coffee powder in it. Into that I arranged the envelopes and the index cards and then left them for about a quarter of an hour. I returned and carefully picked the items out of the liquid, drained the tray and then rearranged the items all around the edge. Back into the oven for an hour on very low.

Once dried I ironed the paperwork and this is the result. I love how it turned out, with all the colours and shapes showing. They came out quite dark and I know some people prefer the lighter look, but for me it was a perfect result.

Happy Mail 23rd August 2018

Just look at these gorgeous tags and colours.

Karolena's Menu for the Week - Chicken rolled up with cream cheese and fresh spinach. Original recipe from Skinny Taste.

The main idea is from SkinnyTaste; but I’m always altering my meals if you want to search the “” actual recipe “” the name is CHICKEN ROLLATINI WITH SPINACH ALLA PARMIGIANA

Here at home we call it Chicken rolled up with cream cheese and fresh spinach 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣 :::

Ingredients:
Chicken breasts sliced thinly
Cream Cheese
Fresh spinach leaves
Spaghetti sauce
Shredded cheese

Method:

Spread the cream cheese ( on chicken breasts )

Add enough spinach leaves to be able to roll

As you roll placed in a greased pan seam down; add some spaghetti sauce & shredded cheese

* Last night I served it with salad, but you can serve in a bed of noodles

* Enjoy 😉

Tea Time

IMG_0709

My pansy teapot

The 'Divine Harvester'
The discovery of tea is said to go back to Shen Nung, the deity with a bull's head and the father of agriculture, who ruled in China in about 2737 BC.  Resting at the foot of a bush and being thirsty, he is said to have asked a servant to boil him some water.  A few leaves fell from the bush into his cup.
Seduced by the sweet and restorative beverage thus produced, he is said to have ordered this plant to be cultivated throughout the land.
from 'The Book of Tea' by Annie Perrier-Robert

+++

Tea-time in our cottage is between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. depending on how hungry/thirsty we are, but tea drinking is an occupation that goes on all day. It starts for me at 7 a.m. when I have my first mug of tea. Then coffee at mid morning break, followed by more tea at lunch-time. Water with lunch, then coffee and another cup of tea at 2 p.m.  The next cup is made at 4 p.m and again at 6 p.m. At 9 o'clock it's cocoa these days but sometimes tea again. Do you think that is excessive!
Just lately I have become hooked on Red Bush Tea.

Red Bush Tea

This tea has a unique flavour. It's quite strong and definitely an acquired taste, but if you like your tea strong and I do! this could be the one for you. It's certainly worth a try. Now I have an admission to make: if it wasn't for the fabulous books by Alexander McCall Smith about the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency, I don't suppose I would ever have tried that tea; but it is a favourite of Mma Ramotswe. Mma Ramotswe sets up a Ladies Detective Agency in Botswana and with the capable help of her secretary, Mma Makutsi, she has lots of adventures. I am hooked, totally hooked on the doings of the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency and cannot wait to read each new book. Mma Ramotswe drinks Red Bush Tea all the time so I thought I must try it. When I saw it on the shelves in Sainsburys, I picked some up. Since then I haven't looked back and I've also noticed that more and more of it has been appearing on the shelves.

Mma Makutsi on the left and Mma Ramotswe waiting for the kettle to boil:

Assam is supposed to be the finest tea, but nowadays I find that lacking in flavour. No doubt my taste buds are getting old as well as the rest of me.

Do try it and let me know what you think of it.
